How Beef Shares Work
Beef shares are a very economical way to get local beef right from the farm, to your kitchen. Instead of buying piecemeal, you are taking advantage of the bulk buying that lowers prices to compare with big box stores. And yet, the product is so much fresher, local and healthy.

The process goes like this; when you buy 1/16, or 1/2, you are buying literally a share of the animal that gets processed. And each animal is different! Some have higher marbling, some will have ample ribs but scarcer roast meat, and vice versa, and every difference between. Overall, each cow processed will be similar, but there are differences.

Thus, we cannot guarantee EXACT weights of each kind of cut. A half share may get you 75 lbs of ground meat, or slightly more or less. A 1/4 share may get you 20 lbs of steaks, maybe more or less. But generally, we can target rough weight you will get, and what cuts you will get. How much of each depends on each animal.

No matter what, we will do our best to work with you. Want 100 lbs of ground beef only? Let us know! With advance notice, we can try to accomodate your requests.

With you share, you will get 1/4 (or 1/2 or 1/16 etc) of the Hanging Weight of the animal. This means the weight of all the meat once the cow has had the inedible parts removed (skin, intestines, head, legs etc). Sometimes, 1/2 share of the cow will get you 180 lbs of meat. Sometimes, it will get you 220 lbs. We will always gladly share our estimates with you before purchase.
